Martin Street Dentists has been part of Brighton’s story for over seventy years – a place where expertise, ethics, and genuine care come together to serve generations of families.
The practice was founded in 1953 by Dr Douglas Hamilton, whose approach to dentistry was guided by integrity, precision, and kindness. While the surgeries have evolved to include state-of-the-art technology and modern facilities, Dr Hamilton’s original philosophy remains at the heart of everything we do: to deliver ethical, caring dentistry for the whole family.
In 1967, Dr Patrick Field joined the practice, bringing with him a deep commitment to Brighton’s local community. Living and working in the area, he forged strong, lasting connections with his patients – many of whom became friends over the decades. When Dr Field retired in 2012, he entrusted his patients to Dr Tim Nicholls, ensuring the continuity of care and compassion that has always defined the practice.
Dr John Rattray became part of the team in 1974, working alongside Dr Hamilton and Dr Field for many years. When Dr Hamilton retired in 1987, Dr Rattray reflected on the legacy they had built together, writing to his patients that “it was a privilege to take care of families and see generations grow.”
