1. Choose the right toothbrush

For many people, an electric toothbrush takes the hassle out of brushing. Its rotating or oscillating head does a lot of the hard work, so all you need to do is guide it around your mouth to reach every corner. But if an electric toothbrush isn’t your cup of tea, that’s fine too! A soft, manual toothbrush used with gentle circular motions can be just as effective—just remember to go easy on your gums.

2. Use a fluoride toothpaste

When it comes to toothpaste, opt for one with fluoride, which is vital for strengthening enamel and protecting against tooth decay. In Australia, most toothpaste brands contain fluoride, but it’s always worth double-checking. You only need about a pea-sized amount on your brush to get the job done.

3. Brush for Two Minutes, Twice a Day

Spending a full two minutes brushing in the morning and at night ensures you’re reaching every part of your mouth. If you have trouble keeping track, try setting a timer or listening to a short song to make the time go by faster.

4. Skip the rinse

After brushing, avoid rinsing your mouth out with water straight away. By leaving a little toothpaste residue on your teeth, you allow the fluoride to keep working, giving you extra protection for a longer-lasting clean.

Incorporating these simple tips into your routine can make a big difference in your dental health. If you have any questions or want personalised advice, our team here at Martin Street Dentists is always ready to help. Happy brushing!
